That said, I’m going to award Frankie Drake Mysteries with Puck of the Week for best Canadian release. The screener arrived late, but I finally got the review of the Blu-ray online. However, the biggest and best release of the week is Captain Marvel. Unfortunately, the list of Pick of the Week contenders is rather short with just Megalobox: Season One and Frankie Drake Mysteries: Season Two, both of which are worth owning. I had to trim some of them to keep the list manageable. There’s no monster hit to talk about, but there are a mountain of new releases that are selling well enough that they could have been featured in the main list and about twice as many that could have been included in the Secondary Blu-ray release. It is an absolute nightmare on the home market. Vincent becomes embroiled in a logistics nightmare as he tries to convince investors to finance the fibre-optic cable which is plotted to run straight through people’s property, nature reserves, lakes and mountain ranges. The aim of the plan is to gain a millisecond (the time the titular hummingbird requires to flap its wings) on the data transfer of commercially sensitive information, so obtaining a trading advantage. As soon as the project comes to fruition, they can retire from their jobs. All the two smart cousins have to do is run a fibre-optic cable from Kansas to New Jersey, while outsmarting their canny boss. IFFR 2019’s closing film is a sharp thriller featuring Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skårsgard as two Wall Street geeks who come up with a bizarre, lucrative plan.
